Are You Struggling With Change? Here’s The Truth
Change is hard, but growth is worth it. We have the power to disrupt stagnation and discover freedom within ourselves.
The only certainty in life is change, life is in constant change. However making change in ourselves is really hard despite it’s necessity for growth and improvement. Our brains are wired to prefer stability and routine. Throughout history, sticking to familiar patterns helped our ancestors survive. So our brains learned to see the known as safe and anything new as potentially dangerous.
When we try to change, it activates the brain’s “threat response.” The amygdala releases stress hormones that make us anxious, irritated and less able to think clearly. Our brains cling tightly to habits because they take less mental effort. New behaviors have to compete with established neural pathways encoded in parts of the brain like the basal ganglia.
On an emotional level, change threatens our sense of who we are. Showing up as deep resistance within the body. Nonetheless, resisting change helps us keep our identities intact. Letting go of old behaviors feels scary and destabilizing to the ego.
Even so, change is necessary for growth. Without it, we stagnate and miss out on our full potential. Problems persist and opportunities are lost. It can take a bit of work to overcome our resistance to change.
To face your resistance:
- Accept that change can be uncomfortable. We may feel deep resistance in our bodies to creating new patterns. But, it also feels good when we move into a new pattern, and we can program that sensation into our body.
- Start small. Change is created by making those small choices. There is power in your choices when you choose what will strengthen you, as opposed to what will weaken you. Small wins strengthen your personal power and self trust.
- Focus on the positives. Remind yourself often of the benefits change will bring. Remember why you want to create something new for yourself. This is a great time to check in if your “why” is in alignment with your values and integrity.
- Disrupt old habits. Remove triggers and establish new routines.
- Find support from friends, coaches or community groups. They can help hold you accountable and encourage you when it gets tough.
- Practice awareness, see if you can recognize your own conditioning, false beliefs and attachments to identity.
- Relaxation and meditation practices can calm the stress response and encourage new thinking patterns.
- Be patient! Change takes time. You can gradually reshape old habits over weeks, months or years.
Our habits create patterns within our energy field, centres and channels. In energy healing, we work with change to shift the energy patterns within the subtle body supporting the daily work in creating change in our lives.
This shift in the subtle energies allows the innate healing intelligence of the body to activate and bring the physical, mental and emotional bodies back into balance and harmony.
The goal of energy healing is not just relief of symptoms but rather an elevation of consciousness that comes with energetic balance and flow. When blockages are removed and energies start moving freely again, clients report a restored sense of wellbeing, clarity and connection to their deeper purpose. They feel more energized, peaceful and spiritually aligned.
Our innate resistance to change is strong, but with awareness, strategies and perseverance, we can make progress. The rewards of growth and transformation will totally be worth the effort! If you’d like support making changes in your life, I’d love to help. Just reach out.
